Overview

Elephant Bedroom Camp is one of the most coveted riverside addresses in all of northern Kenya — ten luxuriously appointed tents positioned directly on the bank of the Ewaso Nyiro, close enough to the water that elephants wade past at eye level from the private decks. The camp balances understated luxury with raw immersion: open-fronted canvas suites catch the river breeze, a lantern-lit dining area and bar create an intimate setting beneath an enormous acacia, and the sense of being genuinely inside the wild is constant.

Situated in Samburu, Elephant Bedroom delivers access to the Samburu Special Five — Grevy's zebra, reticulated giraffe, Somali ostrich, gerenuk and Beisa oryx — alongside the lions, leopards and crocodiles that patrol the Ewaso Nyiro. The dry season from July through October draws extraordinary herds to the river, while January to March transforms the bush with fresh green cover and nesting birds. Night game drives reveal an entirely different dimension of the landscape after dark. Rates vary by season; low-season pricing will be listed here soon — the magic of this riverbank is not exclusive to peak season.

FAQs about Elephant Bedroom Camp

What type of accommodation does Elephant Bedroom Camp offer?

Elephant Bedroom Camp offers comfortable safari accommodation within or near Samburu, designed for guests who want a relaxed bush experience after game drives. Rooms or tents typically feature en-suite bathrooms, mosquito netting, and private verandas where you can unwind between activities.

What dining options are available at Elephant Bedroom Camp?

Guests at Elephant Bedroom Camp are usually served buffet or set-menu meals in the main restaurant, with breakfast before morning drives and dinner after evening activities. Special dietary requirements such as vegetarian, vegan, or allergy-related requests can often be arranged when advised at booking.

Does Elephant Bedroom Camp have a swimming pool and leisure facilities?

Many lodges in Samburu include a swimming pool, bar, and lounge area for guests to cool off during the heat of the day. Facilities vary by property, so pool access, spa services, and gift shops should be confirmed for Elephant Bedroom Camp when you book your package.

Is Wi-Fi and phone signal available at Elephant Bedroom Camp?

Wi-Fi may be available in public areas at Elephant Bedroom Camp, though connection speeds in remote parks can be limited. Mobile network coverage is also variable inside Samburu; we recommend informing family of limited contact during your stay and enjoying a digital detox in the bush.

What is unique about Samburu National Reserve?

Samburu lies in Kenya's arid north along the Ewaso Nyiro River and is home to the Samburu Special Five: Grevy's zebra, reticulated giraffe, Somali ostrich, gerenuk, and Beisa oryx, alongside elephants and big cats.

Which wildlife is commonly seen in Samburu?

Guests regularly see elephants, lions, leopards, cheetahs, buffaloes, hippos, crocodiles, and distinctive northern species adapted to semi-arid conditions. Riverine forest along the Ewaso Nyiro attracts excellent birdlife.

Can Samburu be combined with Buffalo Springs or Shaba?

Yes. Samburu, Buffalo Springs, and Shaba form a rich ecosystem and many lodges and camps offer drives across connected areas, increasing variety of landscapes and wildlife sightings during your stay.

When is the best time to visit Samburu?

Dry seasons from June to October and December to March offer easier wildlife viewing near the river. During rains the landscape turns greener and migratory birds arrive, though some routes may be slower after heavy showers.

What is included in this 3-day safari package?

Typical inclusions cover accommodation at Elephant Bedroom Camp, meals as per lodge programme, shared game drives in safari vehicles, park or reserve fees where stated, and services of a professional driver-guide. Flights, drinks, tips, optional activities, and personal expenses are usually excluded unless specified in your booking.

What should I pack for a safari in Samburu?

Pack neutral-coloured clothing, a warm layer for cool mornings, comfortable closed shoes, sun hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, insect repellent, binoculars, camera, and any prescription medication. A reusable water bottle and light rain jacket are useful in wet months.

Is this safari suitable for children and families?

Many lodges welcome families, though age limits may apply to certain activities and room configurations. Game drives can be long for very young children, so we recommend discussing ages, seating, and family room needs when booking Elephant Bedroom Camp.

What type of safari vehicles are used?

Game drives are conducted in 4x4 safari minivans or Land Cruisers with pop-up roofs for photography and comfortable viewing. Vehicles are driven by qualified guides familiar with Samburu routes, animal behaviour, and park regulations.
