概要

True to its name, Samburu Elephant Lodge is a place where elephants are never far from view. The lodge occupies a commanding position within Samburu National Reserve, its spacious stone and thatch rooms and open terraces overlooking a natural waterhole that draws some of northern Kenya's largest elephant families on a daily basis. The architecture is warm and grounded — timber, local stone and wide overhanging eaves — with an atmosphere that feels genuinely relaxed and connected to the wild world beyond the lodge walls.

Samburu National Reserve protects a suite of species found nowhere else on the classic Kenya safari itinerary. The Samburu Special Five — Grevy's zebra, reticulated giraffe, Somali ostrich, gerenuk and Beisa oryx — are regular sightings from this lodge, alongside lion, leopard and cheetah that hunt the Ewaso Nyiro River corridor. Wildlife density peaks through the dry season from July to October, when herds converge on the river and big-cat activity intensifies. Between January and March, rains freshen the plains and young animals appear across the open scrubland. Rates vary by season; low-season pricing will be published here in due course — the elephants are present year-round.

Rooms or tents typically feature en-suite bathrooms, mosquito netting, and private verandas where you can unwind between activities.

What dining options are available at Samburu Elephant Lodge?

Guests at Samburu Elephant Lodge are usually served buffet or set-menu meals in the main restaurant, with breakfast before morning drives and dinner after evening activities. Special dietary requirements such as vegetarian, vegan, or allergy-related requests can often be arranged when advised at booking.

Does Samburu Elephant Lodge have a swimming pool and leisure facilities?

Many lodges in Samburu National Reserve include a swimming pool, bar, and lounge area for guests to cool off during the heat of the day. Facilities vary by property, so pool access, spa services, and gift shops should be confirmed for Samburu Elephant Lodge when you book your package.

Is Wi-Fi and phone signal available at Samburu Elephant Lodge?

Wi-Fi may be available in public areas at Samburu Elephant Lodge, though connection speeds in remote parks can be limited. Mobile network coverage is also variable inside Samburu National Reserve; we recommend informing family of limited contact during your stay and enjoying a digital detox in the bush.

What is unique about Samburu National Reserve?

Samburu lies in Kenya's arid north along the Ewaso Nyiro River and is home to the Samburu Special Five: Grevy's zebra, reticulated giraffe, Somali ostrich, gerenuk, and Beisa oryx, alongside elephants and big cats.

Which wildlife is commonly seen in Samburu?

Guests regularly see elephants, lions, leopards, cheetahs, buffaloes, hippos, crocodiles, and distinctive northern species adapted to semi-arid conditions. Riverine forest along the Ewaso Nyiro attracts excellent birdlife.

Can Samburu be combined with Buffalo Springs or Shaba?

Yes. Samburu, Buffalo Springs, and Shaba form a rich ecosystem and many lodges and camps offer drives across connected areas, increasing variety of landscapes and wildlife sightings during your stay.

When is the best time to visit Samburu?

Dry seasons from June to October and December to March offer easier wildlife viewing near the river. During rains the landscape turns greener and migratory birds arrive, though some routes may be slower after heavy showers.

What is included in this 3-day safari package?

Typical inclusions cover accommodation at Samburu Elephant Lodge, meals as per lodge programme, shared game drives in safari vehicles, park or reserve fees where stated, and services of a professional driver-guide. Flights, drinks, tips, optional activities, and personal expenses are usually excluded unless specified in your booking.

What should I pack for a safari in Samburu National Reserve?

Pack neutral-coloured clothing, a warm layer for cool mornings, comfortable closed shoes, sun hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, insect repellent, binoculars, camera, and any prescription medication. A reusable water bottle and light rain jacket are useful in wet months.

Is this safari suitable for children and families?

Many lodges welcome families, though age limits may apply to certain activities and room configurations. Game drives can be long for very young children, so we recommend discussing ages, seating, and family room needs when booking Samburu Elephant Lodge.

What type of safari vehicles are used?

Game drives are conducted in 4x4 safari minivans or Land Cruisers with pop-up roofs for photography and comfortable viewing. Vehicles are driven by qualified guides familiar with Samburu National Reserve routes, animal behaviour, and park regulations.
